History

OUR HISTORY IS SO MUCH OF WHAT WE ARE – OUR ESSENCE.

If our inspirational designs reflect our artistic soul, history describes our journey and helps to explain the foundation upon which the Loewen brand of windows and doors is built.

Among the first generation of Loewens born in Canada was a son, Cornelius Toews Loewen. In 1905, C.T. took his father’s sawmill into the woods of southeast Manitoba, formally launching the thriving business that exists today.

Humble items like church pews and beekeeping equipment were among the first things made by the Loewen millwork were . But soon, windows and doors became our specialty.

Over the last century, wars, depression, automation, mass production and globalization of the economy have challenged even the most resilient businesses.

For Loewen, these challenges were frontiers of opportunity. Grounded by an unwavering commitment to exceptional wood artisanship and motivated by a tradition of entrepreneurship, three generations of the Loewen family have successfully pursued local, national and international markets to become a global leader in premium wood windows and doors.

A fourth generation is poised to continue. Loewen has long been – and will continue to be – a home for progressive leaders and skilled artisans who apply their talents to crafting fine wood into quality products that are valued worldwide. Through a century of change, the central business function continues as it began: focused on a tradition of hard work, a passion for wood craftsmanship and a spirit of enthusiastic entrepreneurship.

Our products are still crafted in the same location in which we have built our rich history—Steinbach, Manitoba, Canada. Our centrally located manufacturing facility is ideal for distribution across North America.
