Loewen Receives WMC Award of Distinction

On October 26, 2007 Loewen was presented with the Wood Manufacturing Council (WMC) Award of Distinction, which recognizes a company that has made a significant contribution over time to support the human resource needs of the advanced wood processing industry.

“We are extremely grateful to receive this prestigious award that recognizes the hard work our Human Resources Team does every day,” says Rhonda Bretecher, Vice President, Human Resources. “Our Team strives to serve all the HR needs of our organization while sharing our knowledge and experience with other companies in our industry who may not have dedicated HR resources.”

The criteria used by the judges to select the award recipient include: Long term continued involvement in WMC activities and/or activities related to progressing the advanced wood processing industry; Demonstrated history of leadership; Extraordinary practitioner of the HR profession or supporter to the advancement of HR issues for the advanced wood processing industry; and, a true champion of the advanced wood processing industry.

Upon presenting the award to Loewen, WMC Executive Director, Richard Lipman, indicated that Loewen was selected by the panel of judges because of its leadership in the industry overall. He went on to say that Charles Loewen, CEO, was one of the driving forces behind establishing the sector council, and that Loewen continues to contribute to Council through participation on the WMC Board of Directors. In addition, he noted that Wendy Friesen, Employee Development Manager, is an active participant in the Council’s Essential Skills project.

”This achievement marks Loewen as an industry leader,” says Rhonda. “We are committed to our employees, involvement with the WMC and sharing our best practices with the industry.”

The WMC is a sector council sponsored by Human Resources & Skills Development Canada. It represents companies who manufacture windows and doors, millwork, wood flooring, furniture, pre-fabricated homes and building products, and cabinetry.
