April 5th, 2005
Steinbach, MB – Loewen and the C.P. Loewen Family Foundation are pleased to announce their 2005 Scholarship program. This year, four one-time scholarships of $2,500 will be awarded.
“Loewen is pleased to offer these scholarships to graduating students in southeast Manitoba. It’s our way of investing in our community’s future, by encouraging post-secondary education and promoting the opportunities available for young professionals in rural Manitoba,” said Ken E. Friesen, Executive Director of the Loewen Foundation.
Applicants must be residents of southeast Manitoba and graduating from Senior 4 in January or June 2005, with a “B” or better average in their final year of high school. In addition, they must already be accepted into a recognized post-secondary institution with the intention of completing a diploma or degree program in one of these areas: Business (including majors in Accounting, Marketing, Finance, Business Administration, etc.), Engineering or Wood Sciences.
This week, application packages were distributed to Guidance Counsellors at schools across southeast Manitoba. Students are encouraged to visit their school’s Guidance department to apply. The deadline for applications is June 1, 2005.
“Young people are not always aware of the multitude of career opportunities available to them at Loewen,” said Rhonda Bretecher, Manager of Organizational Development. “Many people associate Loewen with manufacturing and assume that the only positions we have available are in the plant. What they don’t realize is that we employ people with a wide variety of backgrounds, including Business, Marketing, Accounting, Advertising/Public Relations, Human Resources, Customer Service, and Engineering .” Current job openings are listed at www.loewen.com.
For luxury homeowners – and the designers, architects and builders they employ – Loewen is the wood window and door brand that delivers an unrivaled combination of artisanship and innovative, relevant design leadership in an extensive line of Douglas Fir and new Mahogany products. A privately held Canadian corporation, Loewen has distribution around the world with a focus on the United States, Canada, Japan, the United Kingdom and Latin America.
