2008 NAOSH Awards – Honorable Mention
The annual North American Occupational Safety and Health (NAOSH) Awards took place August 21, 2008 recognizing the safety and prevention efforts of Manitoba workplaces during NAOSH Week. Loewen was among eight Manitoba companies to be recognized for having a successful week that included high employee participation, creativity and originality.
Sponsored by the Canadian Society of Safety Engineering (CSSE), NAOSH Week focuses on the importance of preventing injury and illness in the workplace. It was held May 4 to 10, with the theme of “Safety and Health: A Commitment for Life – Live it Every Day!”
2008 Marked Loewen’s 5th Annual NAOSH Week and the event was better than ever. There were thirteen vendor’s representing a wide variety of safety related aspects including Boat & Hunter Safety Courses, Physiotherapy and Chiropractic services, safety supply representatives, Canadian Diabetes and Manitoba Public Insurance to name a few. The weeklong event was not just vendors, but included team member participation in activities such as a weeklong trivia challenge, week long Safety Tip Challenge, Safety Crew Talks, Jeopardy Game, Spot the Hazard and a trivia game. Team members enjoyed having fun with peers, winning prizes and learning about important health and safety topics.
Loewen’s NAOSH Week is unique as the committee who creates, organizes and runs the events are all team members who have volunteered. The Health and Safety Department is proud of these team members and their commitment to building a strong safety culture at Loewen.
