Career possibilities at Loewen range from entry-level production or office support to a variety of departments requiring trades, specialists, technicians, professional designations and management expertise. Below is a summary of some of the careers available at Loewen.

Finance and Accounting

The Finance team is responsible for processing invoices from suppliers, payroll for Loewen employees, payment application, invoicing customers, and financial reporting to the company’s executives and shareholders. The Credit team deals with all collection activity as well as credit risk management.


Human Resources

The Human Resources team works to support our manufacturing and administrative functions. We strategically develop and implement policies and programs relating to health and safety, staffing and employee relations, compensation and benefits, employee development, and general HR services (including food services).


Information Technology and eBusiness

Our Information Technology and eBusiness team is responsible for all communications technology, the development, maintenance and management of our systems, software and servers for eBusiness technology, internal business systems and our dealer quotation tool. This requires a talented team of programmers, technical specialists, help desk and customer service support staff.


Research and Product Development

The Research and Product Development team is responsible for design and refinement of products to support corporate marketing strategies. This occurs through new product designs, design changes and enhancements to existing products in response to changing market demands, material improvements, process improvements, competitive pressures, and code changes brought on by various regulatory bodies. Additionally, emerging technologies are researched to evaluate their suitability for inclusion in Loewen product offerings.



The Production Business Units are responsible for approximately 85% of the activities required to plan and manufacture the windows and doors for our valued customers. From receiving the order from Production Planning to ensuring the right materials and manufacturing instructions are used to crafting and finishing the product, we ensure that every step of the process meets high quality standards before being delivered to the homeowner.


Production Planning

Production Planning is responsible for establishing lead times and scheduling work so that all Business Units are synchronized. Production Planning releases all work orders to manufacturing including internal supply areas and coordinates implementation of any work order changes. We also help Business Units to identify priorities and communicate status and changes back to the Customer Support team. Planning facilitates problem solving and promotes continuous improvement plant-wide.


Manufacturing Engineering

Manufacturing Engineering is responsible for providing services to production teams, focused on modeling and analysis of manufacturing systems, product design and its manufacturability, machinery and process diagnosis, process control systems analysis, and design. This is accomplished through many forms of analysis and evaluation including structured problem solving, evaluating human factors and ergonomics, capacity analysis, conducting productivity analysis, and developing specifications for buying equipment.


Purchasing, Logistics and Inventory Control

The Supply Chain team is responsible for the procurement of goods and services, supply agreement creation and contract management, shipping and receiving, and inventory control, which includes management of obsolete or surplus assets.


Facilities Engineering and Maintenance

The Facilities Engineering and Maintenance team is responsible for maintaining the assets (building systems, machinery and equipment) of Loewen to the highest possible standards through: superior customer service, continuous improvement, total productive maintenance, preventive maintenance, and timely emergency response.


Quality Assurance

The Quality Assurance team is responsible for helping all areas of the organization identify waste and compile the various inputs of waste at Loewen through internal, external and supplier non-conformances. The end goal of this process is to eliminate root causes of waste thus preventing the issue from reoccurring. The problem solving process requires QA team members, whether in the office or on the shop floor, to work at the source to actually ΓÇÿsee’ the problem and speak to the people who do the work.


Lean Transformation

The Lean Transformation team provides support to all areas of Loewen. The two main areas of service include: facilitating the redesign of business processes and facilitating Continuous Improvement (CI) activities, including the development, teaching and practicing of Loewen Lean tools and processes.



The Shipping team has the responsibility of managing finished product inventory and the proper loading and securing of product for safe and timely transportation to our customer. This ensures that the correct products arrive at the customer’s dock in good condition and on time.



The Marketing team is responsible for choosing target markets, attracting and retaining customers, and strengthening the Loewen brand through the development and delivery of exceptional customer value.


Customer Service

The Customer Service team includes front-line Sales, Service and Drafting employees. We work closely with dealers and customers to provide product information, quotes, drawings and warranty parts and service. It is our responsibility to ensure orders are entered and shipped correctly and to resolve any customer concerns once the windows and doors are installed.



The Sales team is responsible for providing window and door solutions to the luxury marketplace across Canada, the United States and internationally (ie. Mexico, Japan, United Kingdom, Dominican Republic and the Philippines). We have many partners in our Sales Distribution Channel including our Territory Managers who work with homeowners, dealers, builders and architects. To enrich the purchasing experience for our customers, we also have an extensive network of Dealers who provide our customers with comprehensive product knowledge in an interactive and inspiring showroom environment.

1. Why should I work at Loewen?

2. Do I need manufacturing experience to work at Loewen?
No. Loewen provides all new team members with training. Before you start any work there is a one-day orientation that provides you with essential safety knowledge followed by training on specific tools and machines you’ll be using. Once you complete the orientation, you will be welcomed to your new team and they will continue to provide training for your position.


3. Is there opportunity for career advancement at Loewen?

Yes. Loewen encourages internal promotions and seeing team members succeed. There are opportunities to build your career no matter what your goals are. At Loewen you have the support and empowerment to challenge yourself at obtaining new skills and training that enable you to apply to various positions or teams within the organization. 4. What are the working hours and break periods?


  • Day shift works five 8-hour shifts, Monday through Friday
  • Evening shift works four 10-hour shifts, Monday through Thursday


Our Steinbach facility has two lunchroom bistros where team members can enjoy free coffee and water and purchase a variety of items from vending machines.

  • During an eight-hour shift, team members have one lunch break and two coffee breaks.
  • During a ten-hour shift, team members have one lunch break and three coffee breaks.


5. When and how do I get paid?

All team members receive their pay on a bi-weekly basis through direct deposit.


6. How long is the probation period?

The first three months are considered a qualifying period. At the end of this three-month period, you are considered to be a permanent team member if your performance meets the requirements of the job.

In Manitoba, during the first 30 days either you or Loewen may terminate employment without advance notice. In British Columbia, Alberta and Ontario during the first three months either you or Loewen may terminate employment without advance notice.


7. What is the safety culture at Loewen?

No community can exist without safety and respect. Loewen maintains these basics by hiring good people, providing top training and tools, and establishing an environment of continuous improvement. We also outline our expectations to ensure that personal freedoms and creativity can be enjoyed in an environment of safety and respect.


8. Who is responsible for safety at Loewen?

Everyone! At Loewen, we promote that “Safety – is Our Shared Responsibility”. Each team member, leader and contractor is responsible and accountable for working in a safe and healthy manner, reporting all substandard conditions and workplace hazards. Managers are responsible and accountable for maintaining a safe and healthy work environment and ensuring that every reasonable precaution is in place to reduce the risk of illness or injury to all Loewen team members.


9. Is there a Health and Safety Department?

Yes. The team is committed to providing support and continuous improvement of workplace safety, health and wellness, emergency response, security and environment.

There are several teams within the organization that aid in investigating, consulting and implementing programs, policies and procedures. These groups include:

  • Joint Health and Safety Committee (JHSC) – Consists of Business Unit Leaders, Group Leaders and team members
  • Safety Improvement Teams (SIT) – Consists of Group Leaders and team members


10. How can I get involved in Health and Safety?

Loewen has many opportunities for team members to contribute ideas and be on teams focused on safety.

Safety Improvement Teams

Assist departmental employees to identify, record, examine and evaluate safety and health related issues. As well, promote education and training programs to help develop knowledge of safety and health concerns and the responsibilities of each individual within a department.

Joint Health and Safety Committee

Under the direction of the Executive Safety Committee, Joint Health and Safety Committee members are responsible for: identifying and resolving health and safety concerns, developing health and safety procedures, and promoting a safe workplace.

Targeted Committees and Teams

As required, Loewen will post for development and volunteer opportunities for team members to participate in. Examples of this are the Health and Safety Week committee, Hand Injury team and Ergonomics team.

Crew Talks, Tips and Ideas

Team members can share safety tips, create Crew Talks (weekly safety memos) and submit ways of improving health and safety at Loewen to the Ideas Program.


11. Does Loewen supply safety equipment to employees?

Yes. The type of safety equipment supplied varies on the job being performed but in general, safety eye protection, hearing protection and safety footwear are supplied to all team members working in the manufacturing facility.


12. What does ergonomics mean and how does it affect me?

Ergonomics is commonly used to describe how companies design tasks and work areas to minimize the physical hazards associated with work requirements. However, ergonomics affects everything that involves people. Work systems, sports and leisure, health and safety should all embody ergonomics principles if well designed. It is the applied science of equipment design intended to maximize productivity by reducing operator fatigue and discomfort.

At Loewen we think about ergonomics as we design workstations by doing Ergonomic Assessments. Most people are used to ergonomics being related to computer workstations, however ergonomics is applicable to any work environment where a person and a machine or tool interact. When creating or improving a workstation several items are examined:

  • Working positions – are there any awkward or static positions?
  • Are there high levels of force?
  • Are there high levels of repetition?
  • Is it a difficult manual handling task?
  • Is there too much bending, stretching or effort?
